After Ford hitting the bulls eye with Ecosport in our market, it took quite some time for other manufacturers to realize that small size SUVs can actually be one of the most profitable segment of cars in India. That is the reason why in this Auto Expo, we can seen three big manufacturers Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Honda are all set with their respective entrants in the same segment to take the battle of compact SUVs on a next level. Yes, these expo stars are worth talking about because in few months, we will see all of them launching in our market which brings us to give a preview of how things will be when they will fight hard for supremacy. What to expect? Here we go!

Exterior

In terms of looks, it is clear that this segment demands bold styling and that is how these all SUVs have been designed. They are bold enough to make clear statement that they can attract those buyers who like butch styling of SUVs. In terms of size, the BR-V is the biggest of them all as it is based on the same platform of Mobilio making it longer than rest of the two competitors.

The BR-V is 4455mm in length which makes it nearly 450mm longer than Vitara Brezza and Nexon as they both measure less than four meter in length. The Brezza with a width of 1790mm stands 55mm wider than BR-V while the Nexon will fit somewhere in between. Given the additional length, the BR-V also has a longer wheelbase of 2660mm which is full 160mm longer than Brezza. The Nexon is also expected to have a longer wheelbase than Brezza. All three SUVs ride tall on 16-inch alloy wheels in their top models with BR-V enjoying the highest ground clearance of 201mm followed by Nexon and Brezza with a ground clearance of 200mm and 198mm respectively.

Engines

The BR-V and Nexon have been announced with arrival of one engine of petrol and diesel while the Brezza will only be available with one diesel engine. The BR-V will share its engine line-up with Mobilio which includes two 1.5L petrol and diesel engines. It will have the 1.5L, 4-cylinder, 117bhp, petrol engine which will be served with a five-speed manual gearbox and an optional CVT gearbox making it a better choice for variety of buyers. The diesel engine will be the same 1.5L, 99bhp unit with an utmost torque output of 200Nm which can be used by a six-speed manual gearbox.

The Nexon will also be offered with two engines. One is the new 1.5L, 4-cylinder diesel engine which will produce the highest power in class with a maximum power output of 108bhp. The torque output will also be around 260Nm. The Nexon will also use a more powerful version of the turbocharged Revotron petrol unit which debuted in Zica. Both these engines will be mated with six-speed manual gearboxes which can be used in three different driving modes.The Brezza is the only SUV which will run on a diesel engine. It will be powered by the same 1.3L, 89bhp, Multijet diesel engine powering other Maruti cars. This engine will be served with a five-speed manual gearbox with maximum torque output of 200Nm arriving at 1750rpm.

Features

All three SUVs will be feature- rich SUVs as they will be targeting premium car buyers. All three will share features such as adjustable power steering, power windows, auto climate control, auto folding mirrors, push button start/stop, 16-inch alloy wheels, projector lamps with day time running LED lights, touchscreen audio system with rear parking camera, navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity and steering mounted controls, rear parking sensors, keyless entry, ABS with EBD and dual front airbags.

The Brezza will also offer automatic headlamps, wiper and optional dual tone colors while the Nexon will have premium Harmon audio system with 8-speakers. Apart from these, the biggest USP of BR-V is its seven seating arrangement unlike the Brezza and Nexon which are regular five-seater SUVs. Rest all features will be differentiated once they get launched in market and their pricing will again bring us back to the fact that which one of them makes the most sense to buy and offer utmost value for your money.
