UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS
The University of Chicago is set in the Hyde Park and Woodlawn neighborhoods, seven miles south of Chicago’s downtown Loop. The campus’s design was inspired by the look of Oxford University. (One bold exception is Joe and Rika Mansueto Library, set underground and topped with an elliptical glass dome, which opened in 2011.) Many of the older structures—such as the 1902-built Hitchcock Hall dormitory—on the campus have earned designation on the National Register of Historic Places.
