Here’s a look at some mysterious real world locations around the globe.
1. EXTRATERRESTRIAL HIGHWAY, NEVADA, USA
The lonely stretch of Nevada State Route 375 is popularly called the “Extraterrestrial Highway” due to numerous UFO sightings along this highway. The route runs alongside the Nellis Air Force Base, where many top secret weaponry have been tested since the 1950s. But one particular area of the base— the Area 51— is particularly shrouded in mystery. Conspiracy theories connect it to an area of aliens landings and alleged UFO cover-ups. In 1989, an engineer claimed to have worked on alien spaceships inside Area 51. This lead many curious UFO seekers to travel to the area which the sate officials saw as a tourism opportunity and declared it the “Extraterrestrial Highway” in Feb. 1996.
2. ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO
In 1947, the Roswell Daily Record published an article about a crashed flying saucer found on a ranch in the area. Many witnesses claimed seeing wreckage and debris from the crash scattered over a wide area and a blazing aircraft in the sky. The U.S. government maintained that it was nothing but a weather balloon that burst. But an incomplete account by the authorities following this incident fueled many rumors and conspiracy theories about extra-terrestrial and UFOs. 3. PINE GAP, AUSTRALIA
Pine Gap is sometimes considered the Area 51 of Australia. It is the top-secret, multi-billion dollar joint US-Australian missile defense base built during the Cold War in Australia and is said to be one of the most classified and controlled areas by the Australian government. Many theorists have claimed that defense base is situated in an ideal location in the Southern hemisphere for intergalactic communications and witnesses have seen triangular-shaped aircraft descend and leave the premises regularly.
